Yes, Download Day is an amazing marketing initiative by the Mozilla Foundation. They have decided on a Download day and are encouraging everyone to download Firefox Version 3 on this day to create a Guinness World Record for the most downloaded software in 24 hours.
They have not decided on an exact launch date yet but it is supposed to be in June. The launch date will be the Download day. Just so that you do not forget or miss the day, they have created a site for the occasion. You can view an almost real time world map here which shows the number of people who have pledged to download FF v3 on that day.
Pledging is also easy. They have a simple 'Pledge Now' button which allows you to make a simple pledge by selecting your region of residence and entering your email ID (they will email you the download day and send reminders too). Though the Mozilla guys have not set a definite number as a target but they are aiming for 5 million plus downloads that day.
This is an amazing word-of-mouth marketing and it goes well with a community which prides itself on propagating Open Source. I am a big fan of the Firefox browser and stand by it.
The Firefox 3 version is supposed to have more than 14,000 improvements, more awesome features, better security, faster browsing and further customizations.
I am eagerly waiting for the D-Day...are YOU?
